A website for a nonprofit legal aid organisation

Gulfcoast Legal Services is a nonprofit that helps people get access to the legal system, especially those whose race, ethnicity, income, age, disability, gender or sexual orientation stand in the way. Its website has to work for two audiences: people looking for legal help, and supporters who want to donate.

The problem

Gulfcoast Legal Services’ website had grown over time as new content was added. The organisation wanted a fresh approach: a site that speaks clearly to everyone it serves, from people looking for legal help to supporters and partners, and that’s easy to find your way around.

What we did

Every page rebuilt from the ground up. We rebuilt all the pages and created a content framework for each one, so the organisation’s team could fill in their own words. We provided the framework; they provided the words.
A clear route to help. “Request assistance” is the first button on the homepage, with legal help topics in the main menu.
Donations front and centre. A “Donate now” button in the header on every page.
More than one language. A language switcher in the header for visitors who don’t read English.

The result

Here’s what happens now when someone visits the site:

People who need legal help find it first. “Request assistance” is the first button on the homepage, and the help topics are in the main menu.
Visitors who don’t read English can switch language from the header on any page.
Supporters can donate from anywhere, with a “Donate now” button on every page.

And because every page follows the same framework, the team can add and update content in their own words.
